Is Bowen Therapy suitable for children? Yes, it is because just like adults, children experience anxiety, have achy muscles, find it difficult to sleep or concentrate, hurt themselves whilst playing sport or just messing about and they develop pain from bad posture. The list goes on. Bowen Therapy helps in many unexpected ways and circumstances, whatever your age.
Bowen Technique was The Rescue Remedy for 13 days old Baby O. He was in great discomfort when on his back, had difficulty feeding and quite literally was continually crying out for help. Fortunately his parents were familiar with Bowen and brought him for treatment early on. Watching the transformation from scrunched up little ball of pain on arrival to tiny child uncurled, stretching freely, his neck relaxing and lengthening within minutes as if it had ‘grown’ was a great relief. He was at peace, had a feed and was asleep in no time at all.
Bowen Technique is the most subtle and gentle form of soft tissue work I know. Underpinning this method are the principles of “less is more” and “allowing the body time to absorb and process” what has been done. Results can be astonishing for those who believe that there is no gain without pain.
If you are a fan of manipulation or firm massage, then Bowen Technique won’t be your natural first choice. But if you are open minded and more interested in the results than the “no pain no gain” philosophy, Bowen is absolutely worthwhile exploring – for recovery from illness, discomfort, pain or injury; for maintaining flexibility; for keeping in good shape and condition overall – whatever your age.
So, don’t let discomfort or pain drag you down. Seek help sooner rather than later, whether you are 13 days old or 99 years young!
